Let's use Internet democracy!

Since people have been moving things around left and right since we all got administrator privileges, I hereby propose that we hold an ongoing discussion to ensure agreement.

Points worth noting!
•Do people use the "Recent Posts" thing? I don't see why it's there.
•Tags should totally be appended by "Components of an effective government include".
•I changed the logo back to white from red because creative professionals agree that complementary colors should not be used in typeface.
•I did some tag-tweaking to ensure easy navigation of different categories.

1) I totally use recent posts all the time. Please don't remove it.
2) Why?
3) Yeah. That... that was an error. I was going to get around to it myself; thanks for dealing with it for me.
4) Hmm. You destroyed my brother's mass of one-time tags (admirable) and my own 'legend' tag (...sadly underused). What you did was okay, but I suggest you maybe consult with others first.

In conclusion: I granted admin status entirely for the purpose of that continuing-story post. Not for... randomness. Right now, I'm regretting my decision. Don't make me regret it further.

Yay internet democracy!

1) A'ight.
2) It's obvious that they're tags, so it doesn't hurt to have some fun in a little-used area in a manner that doesn't harm the flow of the page in any way.
3) Woo color theory tutorial I found the other day!
4) I felt both were justified; the first for obvious reasons, and the second because posts under that tag fit under other ones (history and 'fanfiction'). I will, however, consult in the future.

In conclusion: The things I did were to enhance the usability of the blog, not randomize it. Except for (2), which doesn't really harm anyone. Furthermore, this is 'your' blog only in the sense that you created it, so don't be a dictator who likes hogging all the power. Communism is the way of the future!

1) Nikolas is a loser. That's all there is to it.
2) I don't really mind one way or the other.
3) Lol, colour theory.
4) I think 'legends' should have their own tag. They are different from the other histories, and not really 'fanfiction'.

In conclusion: IF YOU REVOKE OUR ADMIN STATUS I WILL TAKE OUT YOUR SOUL AND LAUNCH IT TO THE HOUNDS. AT 5,000,000 M/S AND AT AN ANGLE OF 20 DEGREES FROM THE GROUND.

Woo communism!!!

4) How aboot an all-encompassing 'fiction' tag? The fewer tags the better, unless we go and tag everything with everything possibly relevant for convenience of searching. However, I think we're more like Homestar Runner than Google.

Yay wikism! It's totally a valid form of government.

ALPHA: I will review tags myself later. Possibly I'll consolidate the fiction (though there's an awful lot of it), possibly I'll add more tags (such as the much-mourned 'legend'). I'm not going to worry about it right now. However, it should be noted that tags are not folders; one post can have multiple tags, and tags can be subcategories if that renders access more convenient.

BETA: I reserve the right to withdraw admin rights at any time. Democracy is all well and good, but in any democracy there must be an executive power. And I am President-for-life.

1] Fanfiction should not be any title of any tag. Fanfiction implies there was an original story and that were changing it to the way we want it. This however is not that.

2] I have to agree with niklaos mostly. He did create the site, and it has been running efficiently.

1] I used the tag 'fanfiction' to denote the fact that the source material is not mine and is, rather, from an separate intellectual property. However, it's not conventional fanfiction; thus the single quotes.

2] Thank you. It's nice to have some support for my dictatorial policies.

Hoijiwha? Why did you change all of the 'administrative' posts to be 'blog' posts? That tag is completely unhelpful! Every post is a blog post!

α: While we can have lots and lots of categories and lots and lots of subcategories, a bare minimum should remain the policy for GUI reasons. I am not proposing a huge 'fiction' tag, but rather a small one to denote posts that are not among the Kronikkles of Desmond canon that permeates this blog and indeed our very lives. This is why I didn't rename or replace 'history'; because as far as this blog is concerned, it is history. The 'fiction' tag of my dreams is currently present in the form of the ''fanfiction'' (those are doubled, not double-, quotes) tag, which currently holds a whopping six posts, none of which comprise original source material.
Also, what would comprise the 'legend' tag were it used as much as the French language?

β: With the powers invested in me as an equally equal member of the League of Desmond, founded 1458 by Jeltharus, I hereby revoke your claim. As The Federation of Levandar proudly claims, right makes might, not the other way around.

1] I'm not arguing this; it is merely due to lack of comprehension that I ask how your fanfiction is unconventional.

2] The founder only makes the best leader when both are results of exceptional charisma, but this blog was founded on Internet savvy.

Unnumbered: "All" 'administrative' posts? There was a grand total of one, as well as two 'old blog' ones. Thus, I saw fit to combine the two. The tag 'blog' does not denote posts on a blog, but posts about a blog. (This one.)

Are you going to post more Windows software, thus justifying a tag to replace the undescriptive 'Free' with something that alludes to handily transparent solid plaques, or should they be combined with the 'macbook' posts under a more cross-platform name?

D McGhie said...

I think Nick certainly has the right to revoke our admin rights at any time.
I do not want League of Desmond history of any sort associated with fanfiction.

Kelsey said...

They're completely different things. If you look at the ''fanfiction'' tag in its current form, you'll find stories based on two video games and one planet in Sol's solar system.
Also, what's wrong with fanfiction?

Cavalcadeofcats said...

A lot of stuff has accumulated here; let me try to deal with things one at a time.

α) So you're... proposing that 'fanfiction' should be wholly subsumed by 'fiction', which would also eat perhaps the Bear-Weasel and any friends? Hmm. Perhaps if the Bear-Weasel does gain more friends, but as it is, I 1) like the indication on the fanfiction posts that they are that (sort of) and 2) feel that a fiction tag would A) encompass few more posts and B) render the fanfiction posts less clearly such. So, not now. Talk to me after the Bear-Weasel gains a few more generically fictional friends.

Man, that needed indentation so badly. Nonetheless: onwards!

β) Completely ignoring your point, Jeltharo is totally part of canon now. Just so you know. It should show up after the current Christian miniseries sometime.

1] Most fanfiction takes the characters, maybe the settings, and does something delightfully noncanonical with them. Mine just retells the canonical story in my own style, and compressed from the length of entire game(s) to a single blag post. Still a product of a fan, still fiction, but... not the classical type of fanfiction.

2] Are you disputing my extreme charisma? Look at this beard! Look at these glasses! They ooze charm.

Alternately, internet savvy is the Inter-Charisma of the Inter-Future.

Numberless: Weird, I thought there were more. I approve of your folding the oldblag posts into the new tag, but I still think that the name bites. 'administrative' would get the intent across much more clearly.

Another Post: No! No! No! Why do you hate all of my tags? All of them!

...Here. Tag mine 'windows' and yours 'macbook.' Make both of them 'free.' Thus, a person could search for free windows software, free mac software, or both indiscriminately. Choice is good.

Desmond: Again, thanks for the support. You're the best minion ever.
Kessler x3: What was the one about the planet?

And the problem with fanfiction isn't so much with the genre, but that most of it is so very bad.

Referring to the first post mentioned again (because I forgot some stuff): I don't think that we need to be exceedingly spartan tag-wise - unless we get over ~12, 15 tags, it's not going to be a real problem. Also, were the legend tag used as the French language is, we would logically have to split it.

Dear god, this should be a blag post in its own right. I hope someone reads this.

No no no. KEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY! You call my alternate history fanfiction? I'll kill you! I'll rip out your ventricles! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!

Unbelievably reverted. Dude, look at the frickin' wiki. Alternate history is in no way or respect at all similar to fanfiction.

Your blog administrative structure is failing, dudes.

Either you all accept that Nick is your Lord and God, or you work as a team, equally - and given as that doesn't seem to be working, given the current Nick v Kelsey schism...yeah.

I recommend total recall of power and a couple real-life brainstorming sessions as to how this will work, because currently, it's just a back-and-forth power struggle.

...ja.

α) My initial idea was some sort of category indicating that the intellectual property is not yours, that would encompass both alternate history and 'fanfiction'. I was thinking something along the lines of 'non-canon', but that doesn't really make sense given my newfound comprehension of the quotes around the 'fanfiction' tag. Still, there are only three posts in each category, and for simplest navigation possible, the less tags, the better.

β) Well sure, in the spin-off books.

Numberless: Since they're not all of an administrative nature (the chatroom post, for example), is 'the blog' an adequate tag?

Another Post: This is an example of how the blog is not formatted for public consumption: you're proposing three tags where we could have just one. My proposition, formatted as an order for grammatical convenience:
The 'Free' tag is going no matter what, as it encompasses more than the misconception of the 'blog' tag. Should you post more software in the future, it's going under 'windows' independently of 'macbook'; shouldn't you (Grammatical equivalent of NOACB!), it will be classified under an all-encompassing 'software' tag.

ja: Nick IS currently in the position of absolute power. He has the ability to kick any of us out at the twitch of a whimsy. I am the check and the balance, so to speak. Besides, our numbering system rocks, so it's all good.
