BLOG PROPOSAL #1: Restricting Blog Access

It has come to my attention that some members feel obligated to publicise the blog. However, who, outside the League of Desmond would even want to read this blog, and even if they did, what would we benefit from them? Furthermore, this blog contains somewhat personal data for all of us that I would not feel comfortable sharing with the entirety of the Internet. I hereby then propose that the blog be made private, so that only members can view the contents.

I propose that it not be publicized, but that it be readable whilst logged out to enable easy access to it. Logging in repeatedly in public and private locations alike is annoying.

...Qesley, I think you misunderstand David's suggestion. No-one's been suggesting an advertising campaign, David's just arguing against letting dudes who aren't logged in (as us) see the blag.

For David's points... 1) How are we going to know who'd be interested in the blag if we don't let dudes see? There are dudes already who read but can't contribute (Roland, I think? Maybe some of Lynn's lot?), and there's enough non-specifically Desmondian stuff on here to interest others.

2) What personal data? Are you afraid that others might know that you are the greasy centre of the League? Must the secrets of the Bear-Weasel be preserved?

I propose that unrestricted access be maintained.

I beg to differ.
"It has come to my attention that some members feel obligated to publicise the blog."
I assume that you are mistaking the following option:
Customize>Settings>Permissions>Who can view this blog? [Anybody]
To be the following one in question:
Customize>Settings>Basic>Add your Blog to our listings? [No]

2) Our first names used to be listed, but I edited that post upon initially recieving administrator access. However, our names are still visible on the first blog; I propose that you delete that one, so we can remove the very unprofessional 2 in the current URL.

I kind of like the 2 though.

It is sort of silly to argue over what someone else said, so I will not continue that.

However, I truly wish that you did not go around editing my posts. That is an extreme abuse of power and is totally not cool. I will delete the oldblag, but will revert the post that you tampered with. Please inform me of any and all other vandalism that you perpetrated, so that I can correct it.

On a related note: Why did you mess with every single one of my links in the webcomics posts?

Cavalcadeofcats said...

Nevermind to part of that last one; you didn't mess with the links (I think...), you messed with the tags. So, odd, but basically OK. (If you did modify something else, let me know.)

our location is listed in the bear-weasel post

and if you want roland and lyn's lot to read it, then just invite them to the blog
they dont have to post anything

I'm re-reverting it. If people choose to broadcast their real names to the entirety of the Internet to be revealed upon a single Google search, they can edit the post or ask you to do so.
Although I respect your ability to express yourself freely without your posts being edited, personal information really shouldn't be put on the Internet without initial consent.

I'm re-re-reverting it. Names are not personal information. If I included phone numbers, addresses, or credit card numbers, it would be. However, I am not, and as such, I feel that the default should be to permit, not to deny.

If dudes complain generally about the whole name thing, then I will rethink things. However, at the moment, the only person who's complaining is you.

Kelsey said...

And David? I thought David complained at some point.

Kelsey Higham said...

yes, I don't want my real name anywhere on this blog

and i removed it from the "league rolls"

Kelsey Higham said...

for gods sake dont put up the names of our teachers on the league associates!!!

do you know how easy it is to find us now?

GOD DAMN IT!!!!!!!!

this is why we should just privatise the blog!

You guys are nutters. No one in the universe except the League itself gives a damn about your names, teacher's names, whatever. Leave it alone.

And editing other's posts without permission is bad. As in, really bad-style bad.

David, are you on the run from the mafia again?
